// Alright, Let’s get started🌟 How about you introduce yourself?
Karlijn: ‘I am Karlijn (@karlijn_visser) and I’ve been an entrepreneur for as long as I can remember. Together with my best friend Evelyn van Hasselt I launched Holistik in 2016: an online magazine, supporting and inspiring you on a daily base, to grow as a person in various ways. We think of Holistik as ‘A daily guide to the greater you’. At the time we were missing a place to virtually go to, for a daily dose of inspiration on the areas of personal development, spirituality, and sustainable living, without it being too heavy. In 4 years time, Holistik grew out to be a platform with half a million returning visitors each month. Really special, and nerve-racking from time to time. Of course it’s really exciting when there’s so many people reading along with us, and following our holistik adventures. You don’t wanna make a mistake, though - of course - there’s nothing more human than that.
// So, tell us - what is your ultimate beauty hack?
I have a few. I barely drink any alcohol - apart from those very few nights I ended up swinging from the chandelier after *some* vodka. Next to that, I am convinced that allowing yourself to consciously feel and go through emotions, including the uncomfortable ones like sadness, insecurity, and fear, shows in your face as well, and will leave you looking more radiant. That being said, i’m really picky when it comes down to my skincare products. I prefer them being ‘clean’ and ‘organic’. Only when it comes down to my deodorant, I sometimes slip-up. But that one has to be damn good, taking into account my daily biking, walking and movement routine.
// What does your daily skincare routine look like?
I am the first to admit, it’s not really spectacular. AM’s I wash my face with a cleanser, use a hydrating face mist and a serum with anti-pollution properties. The latter is no luxury living in the city. I always use SPF 30 or 50 for my face. The one I use now is the Aloe Mineral Sunscreen by Aromatica. Then I dab on some makeup for 5 minutes, and I’m good-to-go. PM’s I take it all off, and cleanse my face preferably with an oil cleanser. In addition to skincare, I believe in beauty from the inside out. I take my daily dose of collagen capsules, and kickstart my day with a shot of The Daily Nectar by Sweet Rumour: a drink full of anti-oxidants, hyaluronic acid, and vitamins, improving your immune system and your skin.
// Could you tell us some more about your fave products?
Absolutely anything containing the word ‘balm’. In my world this equals ‘greasy’ (love it!), and rich (who doesn’t want that?) These two are my faves, both multi-purpose for use on lips, dry spots, and face: the Wildcrafted Organics Everlasting Beauty Balm, and Egyptian Magic.
// What are your must-have beauty items when you’re on the go? A.K.A Those good old products that can always be found in your purse.
My Haeckels Handcream, perfume, and something for my lips, the Lip Tint Oil by Aster & Bay being one of my faves.
// What product do you want us to add to your #greenshelfie?
Nice question! That would be the deodorant. The one by Salt & Stone with Eucalyptus & Pink Grapefruit to be exact. I’ve yet to find a 100% clean alternative that really works. On active days I still use a cream deodorant, including the nasties, because I can count on it to protect me all day. Another product I’m very curious about, would be the Juniper incense cones by Haeckels. I was recently told by a Shaman, Juniper wood is known to clean your energy system and your home. I love burning incense, and I prefer it to be as natural as possible so I’m not breathing in all kinds of nasties.
// Is there any advice you would like to give our Greenbeauty Community?
"You get in life what you've the courage to ask for". This quote by Oprah regularly pops up in my mind. I sometimes remember it in exciting times, when I need this extra push. Or when I actually achieve something big or reach another milestone, I realize ‘I would not have reached it, if I had not asked for it.’ What you wanna get from life, is in your own hands, for the most part. If you turn fear for taking on this responsibility into trust, you’ll be able to make courageous decisions, you never thought possible. That’s growth. And to me, sharing this growth with others, is what makes life worth living.
